Watch The Company You Keep

Monday, December 10th, 2007

It is very important to consciously choose the people you spend your time with.  Many people will passively surround themselves with just about anybody.  The danger in doing this, is that you become like the people you most closely associate with.

Some questions to ask yourself are?

  • Is this person going where I want to go?
  • Does our association leave me feeling inspired or drained?
  • Is this person a genuine friend or a leach?
  • If I had just met this person today, would I want them in my life?

R.I.P. Pimp C

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Pimp C was one half of the group UGK (Underground Kings).  The son of a blues singer/trumpet player,  he was a Division 1 trumpet player and sang in the choir as a youth.  Aside from rapping, he was heavily involved in the production of his groups albums, helping to define the sound of Texas.

Here is a unofficial video (not sure who made it) for “One Day”, my favorite UGK song, off their 3rd album Ridin’ Dirty.

My prayers go out to his to family and friends.

The Power Of Habit

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

A habit is the consistent repetition of an act until it can be performed without the use of will power.  The greater part of daily routine is the direct result of habit.  Once a habit has been established, it begins to grow.  The growth of a habit will continue indefinitely, unless a conscious effort is made to change it.  If a habit is found to be destructive, it can be replaced with one more desirable.  So that similar events now produce different results.  Constructive habits are worth the investment of time and will power to establish.  Habits become powerful because they are self-perpetuating and fueled by their own momentum.  A habit will not be created or replaced by a single act of willpower.  Determination, patience and perseverance must be applied.  Stay focused on your intention and begin now.  Remember that everything that is or ever will be is formed through action in the present moment.
